Local save and recovery

How saving works

TakoTax saves your in-progress tax return automatically in your browser's local storage as you work. You do not need to press a save button — changes are persisted locally as you make them.

Local storage is tied to the specific browser, device, and origin where you are working. Your saved project is not visible to TakoTax servers and is not synced to any cloud service.

No project export or import yet

TakoTax does not currently provide a way to export or import a project file.

There is no project-file backup, no cross-device transfer, and no recovery path if browser storage is cleared.

If a project export/import flow is added later, this page will be updated and the in-app return surface will expose the controls.

When local data can be deleted

Your saved project may be deleted if you:

• Clear your browser's cookies, cache, or site data
• Use your browser's "Clear browsing data" feature
• Uninstall or reset your browser
• Use incognito or private browsing mode (local storage may not persist after the session closes)
• Switch to a different browser on the same computer (browsers do not share local storage)
• Use TakoTax on a different device

There is no recovery path if browser local storage is cleared. The project data is permanently lost.

If you are working on a return you cannot afford to lose, finish it in a single session and download your completed forms before closing the browser.

Shared and public computers

Do not use TakoTax on shared, public, or workplace computers.

Local storage on a shared computer is accessible to other users who access the same browser profile. If you use TakoTax on a shared computer, another user of that computer could access your tax data through the browser's local storage.

Use TakoTax only on a personal device that you control.

Security of local data

Local storage is not encrypted by the browser by default. It is protected by your device's operating system access controls. Keep your device's screen lock and operating system security settings appropriate for the sensitivity of data you are storing.

If you are concerned about leaving tax data in browser storage, clear local storage for TakoTax after your session — but do so only when you are finished with the return, since cleared project data cannot be recovered.
