Why tako.tax exists

tako.tax is built on a simple premise: tax preparation software does not need to send your most sensitive financial documents to a remote server in order to work.

Many tax products rely on servers for document extraction, account sync, or filing services. tako.tax takes a local-first approach for normal preparation: process tax documents locally, keep return data on your device, and generate forms in your browser.

The product is local-first by design, not as a marketing feature. The preparation pipeline — document parsing, field extraction, tax calculation, and form generation — runs in a WebAssembly module built from a Rust core inside your browser.

tako.tax is actively maintained. If you run into a product issue, confusing documentation, or a coverage gap, please report it so it can be investigated.

The service is operated under the tako.tax name. Formal entity details will be updated after registration is complete.
